What is a School Counsellor?

School Counsellors (or “teacher-counsellors”) are both qualified mental health professionals and certified teachers who work with students in the British Columbia school system. School Counsellors’ unique blend of experience and training qualifies them to provide a wide range of services to support students’ success and well-being. If you believe mental health should be free and accessible to every child, and if your passion is to work with kids, then it’s a great career.

The 5 C's - Aspects of
School Counselling

The symbol of the BCSCA is a circle of five people holding hands surrounding a blue heart. We use our hands to care for others, ourselves, and the world. When we hold hands in a circle, we express human community, connection, and alliance. The fivefold nature of the circle represents the five aspects of the School Counsellor.
