About Me

After many years working in special education, I've happily joined the ranks of counselling and plan to retire from this position one day far in the future. I'm the sole counsellor on-site in a small school that houses grades 4-12 with support from a district counsellor for the elementary students. Outside the building, my grandchildren provide me with delight each year as my husband and I plan special activities with them. They love visiting our rural property and are learning all kinds of outdoor skills.

About Me

After stints as a journalist, high school teacher and university instructor, I became a school counsellor just in time for the millennium.  I ply my trade most years in three elementary schools.  My motto:  Have Gum Will Travel.  My current professional interests include the "bullying" issue, boys' adjustment to school (and vice versa), and how to develop  resilience in myself while fostering it in the young.  My work on the BCSCA executive since 2009 has been time-consuming, often nerve-racking, frequently interesting, and ultimately a rewarding experience.  As president since 2011, I have been trying to promote a sense of community among BC's hard-working and underappreciated school counsellors.
