As part of the Ministry planning process for the 2020–21 school year, the BCTF has request the BC School Counsellors Association submit a short (two page), point form briefing document, highlighting the issues and concerns related to planning for 2020–21 from the perspective of ALL SCHOOL COUNSELLORS, as specialist in our area.

Our “brief” will be compiled with documents from other PSA’s, and will enable the Federation to ensure that all the PSA positions are represented during the on-going Ministry planning process. The information submitted by PSAs will be sent to the Ministry, used by BCTF representatives on the committees and workgroups that the Ministry establishes, and will also be used for speaking points by the Federation.

This document is a BEST CHANCE that the joint Ministry of Education planning committee’s work will address issues and concerns relevant to school counsellor to ensure the effective and safe delivery of school counselling services to ALL STUDENTS.

The BCSCA will be working on additional positions statements and best practices guides for school counsellors over the summer. If you are interested in taking an active role in this work—over the summer please complete this quick survey/form.

The Ministry’s process is going to move very quickly, and ideally, the Federation needs the completed briefs by 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, June 24, 2020. I realize that this is an extremely short timeline; however, the timing is dictated by Ministry scheduling.

The BC School Counsellors’ Association is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
