The BCSCA is pleased to announce our first annual BC School Counsellor Recognition Program. The recipients of these awards will be announced at our fall conference in Vancouver, October 2009.
The BCSCA RAP is a program designed to facilitate the promotion of school counselling and school counsellors in B.C., the 1st goal of the BCSCA according the BCSCA constitution. The purpose the RAP is to highlight and acknowledge the achievements and accomplishments of school counsellors and those who support the efforts of school counsellors in B.C. The recipients of the RAP are expected to be those individuals who exemplify the characteristics, efforts and ethical behaviors of effective school counsellors and valued advocates of the school counselling in B.C. School Counsellor Recognition categories:
- Elementary School Counsellor
- Middle School Counsellor
- Secondary School Counsellor
- School Counsellor Educator (from post-secondary institutions)
- School Counsellor Administrator (school, district or government)
- School Counsellor “Builder” (past member of the BCSCA, retired professors, etc)
Recognition Nomination Process:
- Recipients nominated by a colleague(s): counsellors, teachers, or administrators
- A written statement must be submitted describing the achievements of the nominee, together with supporting data
- The written statement would be a one-or-two page cover letter that provides information regarding the nominee’s professional background, activities and experience in counselling as well as a brief statement as to why this person should receive the award.

- Nominee would have to agree to allow their name to be put forth
- Self nomination is not permitted
- All recipients must be approved by the BCSCA executive
- The BCSCA reserves the right to NOT present 1 or more of the above categories, if there are unsuitable candidates.
- Nominations must be received by the BCSCA no later than August 30th
Criteria
- Nominee must be a member of the BCSCA
- Nominee must be a practicing school counsellor or an advocate of school counselling at the time the award is presented
- Nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Should be involved in on-going professional development
- Should demonstrate competence in school counselling
- Should be involved with the school community in promoting guidance & counselling services
- Should demonstrate enthusiasm and caring for students
- Should have initiated innovative project(s) and/or program(s) in school counselling & guidance
- Should demonstrate respect for student diversity and sensitivity to others
Aspects of Recognition Awards Program for Recipients
- Recipient will attend a recognition dinner with representatives from the BCSCA and Sponsorship partner organization
- Acknowledgement of each recipient at the conference during the AGM
- Recipient will receive a “keeper” plaque to display in their school office
- Press release announcing recipients names and schools
- Provincially and locally
- BCSCA website acknowledgement (photo and bio) of recipients
