Plan and Pay for Education - Reference Sheet

As a guidance counselor you play a very important role in promoting the value of post-secondary education by providing assistance and advice to students, parents and teachers. In this time of economic uncertainty the importance of having accurate and up-to-date information has never been more important.
We are happy to announce the most important and far-reaching reform to the Canada Student Loans Program since its creation in 1964. Effective August 1, 2009, there are many new measures that will be of interest to high school students. There is a new Grants Program for students from low- and middle-income families as well as more support for students with disabilities. The new Canada Student Grants Program will provide $350 million dollars in non-repayable grant funding every year.
To help you answer many of the common questions you may be asked about post-secondary education and the changes to student financial assistance measures, the Canada Student Loans Program has enclosed a reference checklist for your use. The checklist reflects information that is available on our website: www.canlearn.ca . CanLearn.ca provides interactive and comprehensive information and services designed to help individuals save, plan and pay for lifelong learning opportunities.
